“Far beyond world music, closer to Manu Chao and to those artists who don’t just blend genres, but turn their own lives into music.”

Paris-born singer, guitarist and globe-trotter Sandro Joyeux mixes afrobeat, desert blues, reggae and West African grooves into a fresh, unmistakable sound. Singing in French, English, Italian, Arabic, Bambara and Wolof, he draws from years spent travelling through Mali, Morocco, Senegal and beyond. He has worked with Daniele Sepe, Eugenio Bennato, Adriano Viterbini, Fabio Rondanini and Toni Esposito, performing on festival stages, clubs and cultural events throughout Europe and earning a strong reputation as a high-energy live performer. Splitting his time between Paris and Palermo, Sandro is currently shaping his upcoming album.

On stage, his shows explode into a shared experience where diverse audiences sing, dance and follow the rhythm instinctively — turning each concert into a vibrant, communal celebration..

In 2012 he created the Anti-Slavery Tour, a travelling project supporting seasonal migrant farmworkers across Italy, which brought him to perform in many symbolic places of labour exploitation. He has played several times in the tent city of Rosarno and at the Gran Ghetto of Rignano, as well as in the C.A.R.A. reception centre of Castelnuovo di Porto (Rome) and in numerous SPRAR programmes. Between October and December 2017 he was the main artist of the #WithRefugeesTour, sponsored by UNHCR in collaboration with the National SPRAR Network and Radio Popolare. Since 2014 he has been the musical guest at the commemorations of the Day of Memory and Welcome in Lampedusa, promoted by the 3 October Committee.

migrant

“Migrant” is a deeply human and contemporary album, born from the experience of the Antischiavitour — the journey that led Sandro Joyeux to perform for African farmworkers across Italy. These songs tell stories of migration, hope and contradictions, shaped into an afrocentric, postmodern musical flow rich in influences yet free from rigid genres. Joyeux moves like a modern griot: crossing continents, blending languages, and merging afro-beat, reggae and Mediterranean traditions, joined by African and Italian musicians, with guests such as Eugenio Bennato and Dean Bowman. Migrant is a sonic journey that places humanity at its core, offering an authentic and universal vision of today’s Mediterranean.

“Sandro Joyeux” is a musical journey through both contemporary and traditional Africa, sung in Bambara, Kassonké, Wolof and Pidgin. Across 11 tracks that combine original compositions with reinterpretations of historic African songs, Sandro weaves together afro-folk rhythms and French songwriting, supported by acoustic textures and traditional instruments such as calabash and tama. Recorded between Naples, Rome and Lille and produced by Mr. Few, the album brings together sixteen years of travels across Africa and Europe, featuring thirteen international musicians including Daniele Sepe, Madya Diabaté, Moussa Traoré and Ilaria Graziano.
